Friday Five

(from the friday five)…

1. What is your favorite type of literature to read (magazine, newspaper, novels, nonfiction, poetry, etc.)?

Hmmm… It depends on the mood. Sometimes I love to read historical stuff, but most of the time it’s fiction. Not science fiction, though.

2. What is your favorite novel?

Easy… Victor Hugo’s Les Miserables. I read the unabridged version back in 1996.

3. Do you have a favorite poem? (Share it!)

No. I’m not a poetry fan.

4. What is one thing you’ve always wanted to read, or wish you had more time to read?

I would actually love to read my Bible all the way through again.

5. What are you currently reading?

My biggest problem is picking up a book and not finishing it before I start another one. I’m currently in the middle of 3 books: Richard Marcinko’s Designation Gold; Mark Buchanan’s Your God Is Too Safe; and C.S. Lewis’ Mere Christianity.

Busy Beginning

Busy Beginning

2003 has been busy, but a lot of fun so far this year.

I hope there aren't any bugs in this cake!

I got to go to a Birthday Party at the McWane Center.

Fishin' Buddies

My cousin, Connor, turned Four.

We also spent a day at the Circus.

I'm stepping on his foot.

I got to meet some clowns…

Dad, can we try that at our house?

…and saw lots of neat tricks.

Popcorn makes it even more fun!

There were lots of great snacks…

Hanging out at the Lunch Counter

…but I saved room for desert at John’s, afterwards.

My little brother, Caleb, had a birthday party in February.

One or Two Nuggets?

I helped out by serving food…

He's Two. Peace.

…and telling others how old he was.

Which way is up?

But I had the most fun helping him play with his presents!

Vulcan - You learn something every day. I didn’t know that Birmingham almost didn’t erect statue of Vulcan. Why? Because he’s ‘nearly nude.’

Funny Story

Take my word for it: Blimps.

Note: There is a touch of harsh language in this story. If you’re easily offended, don’t click the link.

Addicted

Why, oh why, did Sam’s Club have to have the 24-pack of Cadbury’s Creme Eggs?

Why do they have to be soooooo good?

Why can’t I just ignore them?

If you happen to read of my untimely demise over the next few days due to a diabetic incident, you’ll know why. :)

On a Serious Note…

Thanks to Rachel Carmichael, I’ve just become aware of the needs of one individual in the Oracle DBA community.

One of the long-time members of the Oracle-L mailing list, Walt Weaver, has a daughter who is seriously ill. She has a rare genetic disorder, Chronic Granulomatous Disorder, which means she basically has no immune system. In some rare cases, a bone marrow transplant can help. Jenny is one of those rare cases.

Unfortunately, the cost of the transplant is prohibitive and not covered by health insurance.

However, a fund has been set up within the National Transplant Assistance Fund where contributions can be made to help pay her medical bills. Donations are tax-deductible for US citizens. Donations can be made online, using a credit card, at

https://secure.icdc.com/transplantfund/donateform.html

or a check can be sent to:

National Transplant Assistance Fund
Suite 230
3475 West Chester Pike
Newtown Square, PA 19073
Phone: (800) 642-8399 or (610) 353-9684
Fax: (610) 353-1616
http://www.transplantfund.org
e-mail: NTAF@transplantfund.org

I would ask that if you can spare a few dollars, please consider contributing to her transplant fund. If you do contribute, please make sure that the memo line (on a check) says “Jennifer Weaver” or fill in the portion of the online form that says “Regional Fund in Honor of Specific Patient” and then fill in her name. This way the contribution is earmarked for Jenny’s bills and does not go into the general fund.

Should there be money in her fund over and above the cost of her bills, it will be moved into the general fund to help others like her.

You can find out more information on the disease by clicking here.

Daniel & Tina Gallant

Daniel & Tina are some friends that we used to go to church with in Marietta. They are leaving in just a few days to go to Irian Jaya. God has called them to minister to the people who live there (known as the Fatus).

We would greatly appreciate it if you would remember them in your prayers.

Caleb

Caleb spiked a fever again tonight, so Amanda took him to the Doctor. He officially has a cold, and an ear infection in his left ear. Thankfully it’s not too bad: according to the Doctor, on a scale of 1 to 10, it’s a 4.

This is Caleb’s second ear infection, I believe. So far we’ve been blessed, in that he has not had nearly as many ear problems as Brandon did.

In my humble opinion…

Dell Inspiron laptops are the biggest pieces of crap to ever hit the market.

Mine is screwed up. Again. Just 2 weeks after having a ton of parts replaced.

Welcome

Welcome to the world, Lillian Grace Ruoss.

You’ve been born into a wonderful family. Congratulations to you all.
