Retro-Halloween

Kudos again to Dave Barry, who brought up happy memories of my childhood by linking to an online database of Old Halloween Costumes.

Looking through them, I distinctively remember wearing both the Superman and Stormtrooper costumes.

There are a ton of them. Did you find one that you had when you were a child?

Happy…

Reformation Day!!!

Yes… There is such a holiday, and it shares the day with Halloween. :)

It’s The Great Pumpkin!

Time to carve one of the pumpkins that the boys picked at the pumpkin patch.

A pretty nice job, I’d say.

Party

Yesterday, I took my lunch hour and went to Brandon’s school party. Each year on Halloween they dress up in their costumes and have a parade for the parents. I’ve never been able to go to it, but I wanted to make it this year, as it could be his last year to do it.

This picture made having to eat Ramen noodles at my desk when I got back worth it. :)

Dilemma

What to do, what to do.

Over the past year, I have become pretty much obsessed with 2 new things: Motorcycles and Hunting. I went on my first hunting trip this year, and absolutely loved it. I’ve also become obsessed with the idea of owning a motorcycle. To futher that dream, Amanda gave me a weekend away at the MSF session to learn how to ride. I haven’t done it yet, but I’ve been planning for it.

Now, I have the opportunity to get in with 2 family friends who have leased a plot of land to hunt on. Deer season (rifle) starts in about 3 weeks, and I need to decide which to spend the money I’ve saved up on. Hunting club, or Motorcycle camp. Motorcycle camp or Hunting club. The cost is about the same for both.

What to do, what to do.

Sequence_Bump.sql

Oracle-Related Note:

I found myself in need of a script to change the values of a sequence. I had an older script that dropped a sequence and recreated it with a new start value, but that script had some issues (Rights were never granted correctly again, synonyms sometimes went haywire, objects became invalid, etc.). So I created this script.

Usage: @sequence_bump.sql

It must be run as the owner of the sequence that you want to change. For example, assume that you have a sequence, EMP_ID_SEQ that increments by 1, and whose last value was 248. Normally, if you wanted to change the next value to a larger value, say 2343234, you would have to drop and recreate the sequence with a higher start value, or perform a SELECT EMP_ID_SEQ.NEXTVAL FROM DUAL; statement 2342986 times. Instead, Sequence_Bump.sql will change dynamically change the increment value of the sequence, select from it once, and then change the increment back to the old value.

Comments? If you find this script useful, please let me know.

A Bad Side-Effect

Last week, while Amanda and I were enjoying the Highland Games, I got sunburned. Now normally that’s no big deal, because whatever sunburn I have typically turns into a real tan pretty quickly. But that hasn’t happened this time. Instead, I am dealing wth a ton of peeling and itching.

What got sunburned? My head.

Now, thanks to my forgetting to either smear on some sunscreen, or put a cap on, I look like a leper with horrible dandruff. :)

It’s My Serve

I just got my assignment for “It’s Your Serve.”

I got my first choice.
