It’s… Superman!

Cool Math

I meant to post this the other day, when I got it from Laurie, but I completely forgot.

1. Grab a calculator. (you won’t be able to do this one in your head)

2. Key in the first three digits of your phone number (NOT the area code)

3. Multiply by 80

4. Add 1

5. Multiply by 250

6. Add the last 4 digits of your phone number

7. Add the last 4 digits of your phone number again.

8. Subtract 250

9. Divide number by 2

Recognize the answer?

I’ve always loved little math tricks like this.

Richard Simmons Assaults Motorcycle Salesman - There is no way I’d want this posted on the Internet. I mean, how would you like to go through life known as the guy that got beat down by Richard Simmons??

Staying Healthy - Ugh. Does this mean that the kids we all made fun of in elementary school will be around, long after we’re gone?

I think I’ll find another way to try and be healthy.

Geek Chic

Today, I installed Microsoft’s Virtual PC 2004. I’ve wanted to play around with some virtualization tools, such as VMWare before, but hadn’t done it, because I heard that the installation could be difficult.

If that’s true, then hats off to Microsoft for getting their Virtual PC right. I installed it in less than 15 minutes, and I’ve just completed the installation of Windows Advanced Server 2003 (virtually). It’s been extremely easy so far.

Now I think I’m off to try installing Oracle 10g on it as well…

Zoo Pictures

A few pictures from the zoo this weekend…

C'mon, Mom... That's enough!
Sunny Day = Sunscreen for everyone!

Wishing we'd brought fishing poles.
Watching the big fish and turtles swim by.

Dad's Shade
Amanda thought this picture was just too cute to pass up.

Zoo

Amanda and I took the boys to the zoo this weekend. They’ve been wanting to go for quite a while. We went in the afternoon, which was a change from our normal approach, which is to go in the morning. As a result, we got to see a lot of animals that aren’t typically out.

It was absolutely packed on Saturday - the busiest that I’ve ever seen the zoo. That may be because the Zoo is hosting a black-footed penguin exhibit. If everyone came for that, I think they all left very disappointed. There has been a lot of media hype about the Penguins at the zoo. As it turns out, the exhibit is about 6 birds, crammed into the space where 4 soda machines used to stand. If you’re thinking about making a special trip to the Birmingham Zoo just to see the Penguins, I would tell you to think again.

Comment Spam

Website Note: If you notice any inappropriate comments being posted, please let me know. I’m currently experiencing some sporadic comment spam being posted automatically. I’m banning the indvidual IP addresses as they pop up, but it’s more of a damage-control approach.

The bad thing is that I could fix this in 30 seconds, if the database I was running against was Oracle. Unfortunately, it’s MySQL, and this version does not support the mechanism I would opt for.
