Ed’s Friday Five

Well, since the original Friday Five appears to be on hiatus, I’ll answer Ed’s geeky Friday Five. I answered these questions before, back in December, but in order to avoid Ed’s telling me I never update clanMcGraw.com, I’ll answer them again.

1. How much time do you spend online each day?Hmmm. I probably have a browser window open all day, because I use a lot of online resources to get my job done. Non-work related stuff? Maybe an hour.

2. What is your browser homepage set to? The same thing it’s been set to for about 7 years - My Yahoo!

3. Do you use any instant messaging programs? If so, which one(s)? Yes - Trillian. It’s the best one out there, because it ties into AIM, Yahoo!, MSN, IRC, and ICQ. Believe it or not, I actually use it for work as well.

4. Where was your first webpage located? I believe it was http://www.mindspring.com/~bmcgraw. You can actually still go there, but it directs you to here. I actually replicated the page back in December. You can still see it here.

5. How long have you had your current website?Since August 2002.

Proud

On a personal note, I submitted two proposals to the SEOUC for their 2004 conference.

To my surprise, they were both accepted. 1 as a definite presentation, and 1 as an alternate. Now I just have to make arrangements to be there.

Yuck.

Our new Tuesday night routine consists of T-Ball practice, followed by Supper at our local Pizza Hut. They have a buffett, and kids eat free on Tuesday!

That may change after tonight.

Tonight, while we were settling in, I watched one of the servers come out to swap out pizzas. While he was doing it, he dropped a piece of pizza and a spatula on the ground. He picked them both up, hesitated, and then put the serving spatula back on the buffett!!

I sat there in disbelief. Amanda returned to the table, and asked what was wrong. I started to tell her, but then stood up and took the spatula back to the counter, where the guy who had dropped it stood.

“Excuse me,” I said, “but do you have another one of these? I saw you drop it on the ground.”

“Oh, yeah… sure. Here you go.” was his response.

No apology, no excuses. Nothing.

And don’t even ask about how long it took for us to be seated tonight, or how many servers actually helped us.

Tonight may have been my last trip to the Morgan Road Pizza Hut.

Quotable

I have a quote running through my mind right now. I think it was originally attributed to some football coach, but I don’t know if was Bear Bryant, Vince Lombardi, or someone who originally put it out there. And while this is probably a horrible paraphrase, it’s on my mind:

“When you get to the End Zone, Act like You’ve been there before.”

Any idea what the actual quote is, and who originally said it?

Evening of Praise

That’s what happens when the Body of Christ comes together. Tonight it was the Northport Baptist choir and the Hunter Street orchestra. It was an incredible evening of music and worship. I don’t which arrangement of The Wondrous Cross we’ve been using lately, but I have to find it on CD. It is simply incredible.

And let me publicly heap praise on Brandon and Caleb. They sat in “Big Church” with me and their GrandParents last night, and behaved very, very well.

Link-O-The-Day

Who Is That With Jeremy? - I saw this featued on our local news channel this morning. Too cute.

Titanic

Amanda and I went to see Titanic: The Artifact Exhibit at The McWane Center today at lunch. It was supposed to have ended on Sunday, but was held over by 1 week. Amanda had already been once with her Mom, and I hadn’t been able to go. So we made a date of it today.

It was very good. I thought it was too short, until I realized how long it took to go through the exhibit. Each person that enters is given the name of a passenger, and at the end you are told whether or not the person survived. Sadly, my passenger did not. Overall, it was a somber, fitting tribute to such a tragic event. If you have not seen it yet, I highly recommend that you do so if you have the chance.

Theology Thursday

“Yes Sir, that’s one subject you can’t talk enough about… Sin.”
Barney Fife

Today’s topic was sin. It was a really good discussion, and for the first time I found myself disagreeing with Wayne Grudem. I’ve had points so far where I struggled to see his viewpoint, and could rationalize it, but not today.

I’m thinking about going back and creating a separate topic for Theology (like the Oracle and Links topics on the left), and placing all of the theology-related posts there. It would have a more in-depth discussion than appears on the front page. I’d also like to go back and transcribe some of the notes I’ve taken over the past 24 chapters and place them online, but that may be too much to take on right now. And bear in mind that comment comes from the guy whose picture sections are about a year behind right now.

Quick Hits

So far this week…

- Brandon and Caleb went to the Dentist. Brandon has 2 loose teeth!
- Caleb’s been wearing his big-boy underwear (not Pull-Ups!) everywhere since Saturday, and has only had 1 accident (at school).
- Amanda had a “Girl’s Night Out” at the Church Monday, and really enjoyed it.
- Brian is busy at work, and is loving helping out with Brandon’s Baseball Team.

Annoying

This has happened to me twice in the past 2 weeks, so I thought I’d gripe about it here. If you have a stereo that can rattle the moon, that’s awesome. I don’t mind you playing it, and showing it off. I promise that it really doesn’t bother me, because deep down, I’ve always wanted a stereo like that.

But this does bother me: If you’re going to crank it up, in a place where there are probably lots of little kids running around, have some common courtesy and don’t put on the non-Wal-Mart-friendly version, if you know what I mean.

Believe it or not, there are still some parents out there that don’t appreciate their kids hearing a barrage of four-letter-words at 500 dB.
