Freeing My Inner RedNeck

Today, I took another step towards getting in touch with my inner redneck. I went to the time trials at Talladega (or, as the local brethren call it, ‘DEGA!!).

After putting in a lot of overtime at work this week, my co-worker Jodey (who, by the way, knows a guy) and I went to the qualifying rounds. Jodey had been once before, and I had never been.

When we finally got there, after making our way through a ton of traffic, qualifying had already started. The first thing that struck me was the amount of noise that you could hear from outside the trck. And that was only with one car going around at a time.

Top 5

If I pull for any certain driver, it would have to be Jeff Gordon. I’ve kinda followed him for over 9 years now, and know that he’s not well-received by the die-hard Nascar fans. But I was not prepared for the number of people who would stand up in unison when he came around the track, just to give him the finger.

Jodey and I were on full mullet-watch that day. But we never saw one. However ,while having dinner that night, we looked up to see the mother of all rat-tails:

How geeky are you? - I scored 50%, so I guess that makes the other 50% cooler than Fonzie at the South Pole.

The McGraw Car

I am convinced that my co-worker, Jodey, pretty much knows everyone.

After he hooked me up with a friend of his that will be repairing our heat pump, he mentioned that he knew a person at Gamble’s Automotive, which is where we take our vehicles for repair. Jodey went by there yesterday to visit with his friend, and mentioned that worked with a guy (me) who brought his cars in. He then related my most infamous Gamble’s story…

I had stopped at Lowe’s one day, and turned the car off. But the car kept on running. I toggled the key back and forth a couple of times, but the car would not shut off. So instead of going into Lowe’s, I drove the car to Gamble’s. When I got there, I walked in and said, “I have a problem.”

Jodey’s friend, who was working at the counter asked what it was. I told him, “My car won’t turn off.” He looked at me funny, and started laughing. He said, “Yeah, that’s a problem. Usually everyone that shows up here says their car won’t start.” We laughed about it being a first for them, and, of course, they fixed it.

Back to yesterday… As soon as Jodey said “His car wouldn’t turn off,” Jodey’s friend smiled and said “Oh… You mean the McGraw car!”

Apparently I’m a legend. :)

Did you ever find yourself looking at a link on someone else’s web page, and think, “Man, there’s no what that’s real?”

Think again.

Amanda’s Visit

Amanda’s tests went well, and unfortunately for her, confirmed what we already knew. She has gallstones, and her Doctor is going to be setting up a consult with a surgeon.

Tests

Remember the trip to the ER that Amanda made last month? Well, today she’s going to a specialist for a series of follow-up tests. Those include a sonogram of her gall bladder, and an endoscopy. I’m going with her, because she won’t be able to drive after being sedated for the endoscopy.

Brandon, rouding third and heading for home.

More T-Ball pictures can be found here. However, I’ve only publicized the pictures with Brandon and Caleb in them. To see the rest of the pictures, you have to either be listed as a friend or family member of mine in Flickr. You’re welcome to do that - membership on Flickr is free. It’s just a way to make sure that no other parents on our T-Ball team see a picture of their child float across the Internet.

Easter Smile

Because everyone was sick for Easter this year, we don’t have a good set of Easter photos like we normally do. However, you can see the few that we do have here.

Entering the Stadium

Earlier this month, we took the boys to Alabama’s intra-squad game. You can see the rest of the pictures here.

While we were walking through the “High School Prospects” gate, I put my hand on both boys and said, “Some day, guys, you’ll be walking through this gate again…”
