Sight Seeing

You know, there are some things that you just aren’t prepared to see while you’re driving down the Interstate on a Sunday afternoon:

Things you aren't ready to see on the highway, Part II

This is actually a picture of the 3rd cannon that we passed that day.

Memorial De-Brief

What a fun weekend.

Saturday: We spent most of the morning outside, with me re-wiring the Altima’s XM antenna, and Amanda digging up her flowers in the back. When I got finished, I went back and helped her separate out all of the bulbs that had grown together over time. Later this week I have to go get some dirt and sand to fill in some places that have washed in the back, and replant the back flowerbed.

When we got finished with that, we surprised the boys with a trip to see Madagascar. It was a cute movie, but I think that Amanda and I laughed more than the boys did. I also had a talk with Brandon after the movie about ‘words that we heard and read’ in the movie that aren’t okay for us to say. Sad, but true.

Sunday: After church and a nap, we went to Tuscaloosa to have dinner with the Fondrens and our friend Dana. We ate at Mr. G’s, and marvelled at how big each other’s kids had gotten. After that, we went to my Mom and Dad’s house to spend the night.

Monday: Got up this morning, and ’surprised’ Amanda’s mom with a BBQ. Amanda’s Dad, Jim, used to love grilling out on Memorial Day. Since he passed away, we just haven’t done it very often. Today, we picked up some Boston Butt, and some boiled shrimp. I learned and practiced the Jim-Marsh-BBQ-method, to much success. The strip steaks turned out excellent.

After lunch, we came home so the boys wouldn’t miss their first night of swim lessons. They did great. The highlight of the night was when Caleb’s group had the chance to go down the water slide. The first little boy got to the top, but had a change of heart. Caleb then decided he’d try. He went all the way up, and came down with his swim instructor. When they came up out of the water, all of the parents around the pool started clapping for him. My new nickname for him is ‘BraveHeart’.

What a fun weekend. It’s just too bad that tomorrow isn’t a holiday as well.

Babe Ruff

Picture with Babe

I know that this isn’t the best picture. However, this is the first time that Caleb has not freaked out, while being close to a large mascot, in at least 2 years.

He even gave Babe a high five. That’s my boy.

Link-O-The-Day

Store Wars - This is a rather large movie, but well worth it. May the Farm be with you.

RIP, Howard Morris

AKA Ernest T. Bass

Old Aunt Maria, jump in the fire,
Fire too hot, jump in the pot,
Pot too black, jump in the crack,
Crack too high, jump in the sky,
Sky too blue, jump in canoe,
Canoe too shallow, jump in the tallow,
Tallow too soft, jump in the loft,
Loft too rotten, jump in the cotton,
Cotton so white she stay there all night!

Cool Again

Thank you, Johnny, for coming by, making our house cool again, and not charging us an arm and a leg to do it!

Darth Bri-on

Went to see Revenge of the Sith last night. It was good, but I must admit to being a little disappointed.

I won’t say any more for now, because I don’t want to spoil it for anyone else.

McWeekend, Nutshell style

Friday Night - Camped out in the back yard with Brandon and Caleb.
Saturday Morning - T-Ball game at 9:00. Party afterwards.
Saturday Afternoon - Kids played in the pool, Brian discovered that the A/C stopped working in the house.
Saturday Night - Birmingham Barons game. Came home to extremely hot house.
Sunday Morning - Morning at Church. Came home after lunch to a hot house and a message from our repairman, saying he wouldn’t be able to make it there until Monday.
Sunday Afternoon - Relaxing afternoon at home, until it got extremely hot.
Sunday Night - Went to supper with friends. Came home to a cooling down house. Brian did some work from home, and then had a complete sinus meltdown.

And did I mention that it’s been hot this weekend? C’mon, Johnny…

Caleb!

Remember the picture of Caleb that I thought was so cute? We still hadn’t seen it published in any of our Church mailouts, or on any posters, so were wondering when it would show up.

Well, we found out yesterday. We received a DVD in the mail from the church. It’s information on a giving program for this Summer (Hunter Street’s Extreme Church Makeover, in case you’re wondering). We opened it up, and there was Caleb’s picture inside.

Picnic Day

Fried Chicken…$10
Gas to Shocco Springs…$15
Snow Cones…$2
Spending the day getting to fish, ride paddle boats, and play putt-put with your family…Priceless.

Having a Baptism service in the lake, and hearing your son ask, “Dad, when can I be baptized?”, and getting to talk to him about what it really means to ask Jesus into your heart… More than Priceless.

(Pleae keep a certain big boy in your prayers. He’s asking a lot of questions these days).
