Post-Hurricane Conversation, Part II

Today I called my Dad to check on him & Mom. They made it through the storm well, and never lost power. He mentioned that he had taken his generator to his Pastor for him to use. At that time, I thought about Amanda’s Mom, and wished that I’d talked to my Dad earlier, so we could have gotten the generator to Diane’s house. (Diane needs electricity for her dialysis machine.)

About 30 minutes later, Dad calls me back and says that his Pastor’s electricity had been restored, and asks if Diane would want it. I call Diane, check with her, and then my Dad’s on the way to pick up the generator and take it to Diane. He gets to her house, and he and Amanda’s brother spend about 30 minutes setting it up & going over the details on it.

My Dad leaves, and about 10 minutes later Diane calls him. Her power is back on. Dad calls to tell me this, and we both laugh about his ‘holy generator.’ I suggest that if it only took 2 hours for it to make the electricity reappear at his Pastor’s house, and only 30 minutes to work its magic at Diane’s, that he should be able to load it in the back of his truck, and by simply pulling into my driveway, it would make the power come back on.

I got home from work, at about 5:00, and told Amanda the entire story. Caleb’s listening the whole time, laughing.

Fast-forward to 8:00 tonight. We all returned from Brandon’s scout meeting, and find that our power is back on. Brandon walks in, flips the light switch, and cheers. Behind him, Caleb walks in and shouts:

“Yea! Paw-Paw fixed the lights!!”

Thanks for everything, Dad. :)

Post-Hurricane Conversation

This conversation occurred this morning, around 7:00 am:

Brandon: Dad, can I play on the computer?
Dad: No, son, the power’s off.
Brandon: Okay.
Caleb: Can we watch TV?
Dad: No, son, the power’s off.
Caleb: Oh. How about a DVD?
Dad: No, son, the power’s off.
Caleb: Oh.

Caleb then stands in front of the entertainment center in our bedroom, thumbing through DVDs.

Dad: Caleb, what are you doing?
Caleb: Picking which DVD to watch when the power’s on again.

As of 4:00, he’s still waiting.

Link-O-The-Day

You can use the f-word in class (but only five times) - Unbelievable. Surely this is a hoax.

Where have you gone, Mr. McGraw??

I’m still here. A lot of the stuff that consumed our lives last week is house-related. I would normally blog about it, but I just don’t feel comfortable doing that right now. If you’d like to pray for us, though, I would greatly appreciate it.

Otherwise, for humor, here’s a few little things that Amanda learned about boys and Tinkertoys last night:

1) There is a natural instinct in boys to build guns and swords.
2) Despite the lack of pictures on the box, Dads have a natural instinct on how to create catapults out of Tinkertoys.
3) Toys launched from a Tinkertoy catapult can easily hit the ceiling fan.
4) Boys love toys that launch things.

Otherwise, I really don’t want to go to work today. I’d much rather go to the National Weather Service, or sit on the couch at home and watch Katrina roll in.

Varicelle de Poulet

2 Boys = 2 cases of the Chicken Pox.

We think.

The CP vaccine works not to prevent the disease, but to dramatically reduce its symptoms. So where most kids would break out head-to-toe in spots, the vaccine reduces it to 20-30 spots that look like bug bites. We knew that both kids were exposed a few weeks back, and have been on the lookout ever since. I’m just glad they’re getting them when they’re young, and not when they’re adults.

The new Casa de McGraw??

Maybe! Click the link above to view the set, complete with notes.

First Day of School

Brandon & Caleb completed their first day at Evangel today. By all counts, it was a great success. Caleb got a special sticker from Ms. Tabany today, for ‘being quiet’ (which, considering his volume control, is an accomplishment), and Brandon is working on learning his first Bible verse at school (John 3:16).
