Merry Christmas!

On This Day…

Lots of monumental events have occurred on December 19th. Among them:

  • 1777 - American Revolutionary War: George Washington’s Continental Army goes into winter quarters at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania.
  • 1843 - A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens, is first published in England.
  • 1988 - Lawn darts are banned from sale in the United States by the Consumer Product Safety Commission
  • Of course, the most noteworthy item to me is:

  • 1998 - Lewinsky scandal: The United States House of Representatives forwards articles I and III of impeachment against President Bill Clinton to the Senate.
  • I remember watching the hearings that day. Amanda didn’t want to, but I did.

Of course, Amanda was a little distracted giving birth to Brandon that day. :)

    100 years

It’s kinda neat when an article about your Church comes across your RSS Reader:

We’re celebrating our 100 year anniversary as a Church next month. Apparently these will be presented at that time.

    Sensation

I have a sealed jar on my desk. It contains nothing but York Peppermint Patties.

I don’t know which is better: Eating a YPP, or just opening the jar and deeply inhaling the peppermint fumes.

I may need someone to schedule an intervention.

    Never Forget.

“No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might, will win through to absolute victory.

I believe that I interpret the will of the Congress and of the People when I assert that we will not only defend ourselves to the uttermost, but will make it very certain that this form of treachery shall never again endanger us.

Hostilities exist. There is no blinking at the fact that our people, our territory, and our interests are in grave danger.

With confidence in our armed forces - with the unbounding determination of our People - we will gain the inevitable triumph - so help us God.”

Speech to the U.S. Congress on December 8th, 1941

    Day of Infamy

    Grandmother

Thanks to all of you who emailed yesterday asking about my Grandmother. She went home from the hospital late Monday afternoon. But this is weird to me - she was discharged with a 100+ degree fever. I’m hoping that she didn’t pick up anything new during her stay in DCH. Given their history with Staph infections, I’m worried about that.

Thanks to all of you for your prayers & kind words.
