Battlestar Galactica Moral

Over at io9.com, people are debating the good and bad of the BSG finale. They’ve also got information on alternative endings that were not filmed. But by far, the best comment that I’ve read is:

“…make sure your Roomba can’t reach the knives.”

Agreed. I think I’ll go unplug Herbie tonight, just to remind him who’s boss.

Edit: Hey, genius… It’s MORAL, not Morale.

Amazing

First of all, thanks again to so many of you for your calls, kind words, and most importantly, your prayers.

Late Friday afternoon, one of the nurses came in for her normal rounds and checked Diane’s graft. She heard a pulse. She called in a Doctor, who not only heard the pulse, but could feel one in the graft as well. This was after 2 shifts of nurses and Doctors were unable to hear one. Diane was discharged from the hospital Friday night.

I think that I toss the word ‘miracle’ around pretty flippantly. And at the same time, I find myself hesitant to use the word in certain situations. I don’t think that we truly appreciate the supernatural intervention of God’s hand in our lives, when it occurs. Sure, it could be that there was a blood clot causing the problem, and the medicine that Diane’s been on for quite a while dissolved the clot on its own. This would, however, be contrary to how we’ve seen things operate in the past.

I’d just like to point out that we got this news probably an hour after so many of you started praying for Diane’s Mom.

Soli Deo Gloria.

Diane Update

(BTW - Thanks to all of you who called/emailed me after my hurried Twitter post)

Last night, Amanda’s Mom had to be taken back to the hospital. When she showed up for dialysis yesterday, the nurses were unable to hear a pulse in the new graft. This new graft is the “permanent” solution for where dialysis will occur. Diane currently has a temporary port that they are using. The temporary ports are very vulnerable to infection, and have to be replaced periodically.

When Diane had this graft put in a few weeks ago, they had a problem with it clotting. Surgeons had to operate on it a few days after it was originally put in, to remove the clot and open it back up. The same thing happened last night - Doctors used a balloon to open it back up. This morning, however, the Doctors were unable to hear a pulse again, which means it has probably clotted again.

Apparently, there are 4 places you can put this type of graft - 1 in each thigh, and 1 in each arm. Diane’s two thighs are not candidates, because of past grafts and surgery. Her other arm is also not an option due to past problems with blood clots. Which means that this is the only place left to attach a graft.

Diane’s Doctor said that he’s not really sure what the next step would be, if this graft has to be removed.

Amanda and her brother have started calling around to other Doctors / hospitals to see what any other options might be.

Please keep Diane in your prayers.

Constitutional?

Maybe one of you legal-eagles, or someone smarter than me can explain this to me.

How is it that the 90% tax rate that Congress voted on today not a violation of Article 1, Section 9, of the United States Constitution?

Specifically…

No bill of attainder or ex post facto Law shall be passed.

I’m sure it’s just my understanding of an ex post facto Law. But, then again, this is the same Congress that’s way more upset of $165 million than the 1 trillion dollars that we just seem to print out of thin air.

Throw the bums out. All of ‘em.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day

May God be with you and bless you.
May you see your children’s children.
May you be poor in misfortune, rich in blessings.
May you know nothing but happiness.
From this day forward.
