Friday Five

Friday, May 8th, 2009

It’s been a while. Why not?

1. What’s your favorite card game? Rook. Too bad I can’t find anyone to play it with. :(

2. What’s your favorite roll-the-dice-and-move game? I like Monopoly, but it just takes too stinking long to play. I also love Risk, but I’m not sure that it counts as a roll-the-dice-and-move-game. So with those notes, I’ll give the nod to Sorry, because the boys like to play it so much.

3. What’s your favorite playground game? Hmm. Kickball?

4. What’s your favorite party game? Power Uno. This was a game invented by several college friends one night, back in the early 90s. Best when played with multiple decks. I believe that I wound up drawing 24 cards in a single turn.

5. What’s your favorite computer game? I’m not much of a PC gamer, but I’m currently having a blast playing Left For Dead. It’s the first PC game I installed since… Tie Fighter, maybe?

This should not surprise you.

You Should Be Allowed to Vote

You got 14/15 questions correct.
Generally speaking, you’re very well informed.

If you vote this election, you’ll know exactly who (and what) you’ll be voting for.
You’re likely to have strong opinions, and you have the facts to back them up.

August 15: Disposal.

1. What did you last replace batteries for? The TV remote in the Den.

2. What have you thrown away that you probably could have had repaired? Last year, my lawnmower started having problems. It was 10 years old. I probably could have repaired it, but decided to splurge and bought a lawn tractor instead.

I gave the lawnmower to my Dad. He had it up and running in about a day. I don’t regret my decision in the least. :)

3. Among items in your line of sight right now, what should probably be put in the trash? Junk mail.

4. When did you last use disposable cutlery while dining in your house? Do chopsticks count? If so… about 2 weeks ago.

5. Whose actions cause you to waste time you otherwise wouldn’t waste? I’m going to refrain from answering this question.

You Are Archery

You are a bit of a traditionalist. You like old fashioned things with deep traditions.
You also like to see the result of your accomplishments right in front of you.
If practice makes perfect, that’s fine by you. You like to practice a skill.

Friday 5: Metaphors Be With You

Friday, July 25th, 2008

It’s been a long week. Let’s throw out a quick Friday 5.

1. When you go to the beach, lake, or pool, are you more likely to lower yourself gradually into cold water or to take a determined plunge and get it over with? I’m a plunge-in type guy. But if the water’s too cold, I’m not getting near it.

2. How is this like (or unlike) your approach to other tasks or ordeals? I’m a plunge-in head first guy there as well. Usually I’m able to swim or tread water.

3. When someone gives you flowers, are you more likely to let them turn completely brown and gross before throwing them out, or to discard them the moment they take on that sick-flower look? Heh. I don’t get flowers too often. But I’m a toss’em when they look sick guy.

4. How is this like (or unlike) your approach to other gifts, purchases, or relationships? Depends on how much I value that gift/purchase/relationship.

5. Think of your favorite movie (or a movie you really like, if you can’t think of a favorite). Some people say that the reasons you love your favorite movie are related to what you value in romantic relationships. How is this true or untrue in your case? One movie I’ve been watching a lot lately is 300. So from that, I’ll say that I value commitment, devotion, laughing in the face of danger, courage, decisiveness and a “can-do” attitude instead of a “should have” attitude.

Good.

You Are Not a Wimp

In fact, you are an incredibly tough person.
Your nerves do not get the better of you.

You don’t back down from challenges or intimidating situations.
You love the thrill of conquer… so much so that it outweighs the fear of defeat.

Are You a Wimp?

If the quiz had said otherwise, the monitor would have a .45 caliber hole in it.

Civic Literacy Test

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

I stumbled upon this gem early this morning. There are 60 questions. If you’ve got the time, Click here to take the test.

I was really disappointed in my results, but I’m sharing them here anyways:
You answered 43 out of 60 correctly — 71.67 %
Average score for this quiz during May: 73.6%
Average score since September 18, 2007: 73.6%

But then I felt a little bit better, when I saw that the top score belonged to Harvard Seniors: 69.5%.

Friday 5

Friday, May 9th, 2008

It’s been a while since I’ve done this… but let’s play the Friday 5!

1. When was the last time you had a needle stuck into you? Monday night. I was having to use a needle to get a splinter out of Brandon’s hand. To try and convince him that it wouldn’t hurt, I stuck the needle up under the top layer of skin on my hand (like you used to do in elementary school).

2. Who among your friends is the easiest target for needling? My hero, Andy.

3. What’s something you can confidently do with a needle and thread? Sew on a button.

4. About how many phonograph records do you have in your home, and when’s the last time you dropped a needle on one? Total guess: about 25, all in storage boxes. I haven’t listened to one since probably 1992.

5. Someone told us the other day about someone at a party using a flavor injector to spike a watermelon with vodka. Is this brilliant or is this stupid? As opposed to cutting a chunk out of it… brilliant.
